What is the MesaMoves Look Twice Challenge?

The "Look Twice" Challenge is a community engagement campaign aimed at promoting roadway safety. Studies have shown that most serious and fatal crashes are caused by people not seeing each other. By completing fun challenges, residents can earn points for a chance to win prizes – while reminding us all to "look twice" to save lives on Mesa's roadways.

We're asking you to join MesaMoves in a fun, interactive challenge designed to keep you and your community safer by spreading awareness. Every completed step gets you closer to winning, and the more you do, the better your odds.

How Does It Work?

Step 1: Sign up below. Registration is required to track your points. Earn points from October 9 to December 6, 2025. Winners will be contacted mid-December and announced on the MesaMoves Facebook page. 

Step 2: Complete the listed challenges and track your points through the provided link. 

Step 3: Winners will be contacted after the Reindeer Roll and Stroll Scavenger Hunt, in mid-December.

Social Media Challenge

There are two ways to participate on social media.

-Mirror version: Look in the mirror --> Something unexpected appears --> Back to normal with your reaction to what you just saw.

-Real-time version: Record yourself in a daily activity --> Switch to something surprising --> Back to normal life.

Rules for the #LookTwiceMesa Challenge on Social Media – 4 points

  • Participants must ensure that no one involved in the video is ever in danger at any point during the video. Ensure you practice safe driving practices on the roadway and follow the laws at all times.
  • Participants must include hashtags #looktwicemesa and #mesamoves.
  • Tag @cityofmesa on Instagram.
  • Tag @mesamoves on Facebook.

How do I enter?

Step 1: What do you need to enter?

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and an Arizona resident for at least two years.
  • Must be willing to sign a contract with the City of Mesa for work.
  • Must submit a sample of your work and the concept for your art.
  • Must enter before our deadline of January 15, 2026.
  • The call is open to the public, including artists teams
  • No entry fee required. 

Step 2: What type of work are we looking for?

We are looking for a t-shirt design that references or is inspired by: 

  • The City of Mesa.
  • The MesaMoves Program and/or our dedication to safety education.
  • Active transportation choices in Mesa.

Step 3: Sign up below: Registration is required.

Paid Commission Details

Chosen artist will receive:

  • $1,000 for their design.
  • Booth space at CycloMesa and Bike to Work Day.
