We have teamed up with Local First Arizona (LFA) to recognize independently owned businesses that are doing good for the planet through the Arizona Green Business Program. The certification process aims to recognize leaders in sustainability and assist others in adopting eco-friendly practices. There is currently no fee to participate. Stardust Building Supplies is a non-profit organization focused on reducing landfill waste. They operate reuse centers in Mesa and Glendale, offering affordable, gently used building materials, including cabinets, appliances, and furniture. Their deconstruction services help salvage materials and promote sustainability in the community. The gallery in downtown Mesa offers executive suites, an art gallery, and Studio 101 for meetings and classes. Committed to sustainability, the historic building, built in 1898, underwent a comprehensive energy audit, leading to high-efficiency lighting, programmable thermostats, and dual-pane windows. Ivan Martinez, founder of Ivan Martinez Photography, is a commercial photographer who creates timeless images by listening to his clients and telling their business stories. He prioritizes sustainability in his Mesa office, localizing purchases to reduce transportation emissions and recycling electronics through certified recyclers to prevent environmental contamination. Additionally, he uses energy-efficient light bulbs, programmable thermostats, and power management software to conserve energy.

Originally opened as a movie house in 1924, The Nile Theater and The Nile Coffee Shop have evolved over the last 100 years. A key priority is to cultivate a culture of sustainability among employees through special training in waste diversion and conservation practices. The vegan menu emphasizes ingredients sourced from local growers, supporting a sustainable food economy. The Nile reuses and recycles materials while composting all food waste, donating it to Celestial Stem for local community gardens. During recent renovations, it used bricks from its original 1924 construction, exemplifying a commitment to zero waste.
