Crime Scene Unit

The Crime Scene Unit provides expert forensic response and crime scene analysis to the Mesa Police Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Crime Scene Specialists play a critical role in criminal investigations by responding to a wide range of incidents, from property crimes to homicides.

Using specialized training and proven forensic techniques, Crime Scene Specialists document, preserve, and collect evidence that assists investigators and supports the pursuit of justice. Services include forensic photography, latent fingerprint processing, physical evidence collection, chemical processing techniques, field drug testing, shoe and tire impression documentation and casting, and ink fingerprinting.

In addition to processing crime scenes, Crime Scene Specialists prepare detailed forensic reports and provide expert testimony in court regarding their observations, evidence collection, and forensic processing methods.

The Crime Scene Unit is also supported by dedicated volunteers who receive specialized training to assist with designated incident types, expanding the unit's ability to provide timely, high-quality forensic services to the Mesa community.
