The Evidence Processing Unit (EPU) specializes in examining evidence for latent fingerprints and biological material. To develop and enhance latent prints across a variety of surfaces, analysts utilize specialized powders, chemical enhancements, and illumination techniques, including Forensic Light Sources. The latent prints are preserved photographically and made available to the Latent Print Unit for evaluation and comparative work. EPU also processes evidence for biological material, such as blood and skin cells, and prepares samples for DNA analysis, performed by the Biology Unit.
