Landfill Use Program

Mesa residential trash and recycling customers with the applicable rate code printed on their City of Mesa Utility bill can use the Landfill Use Program to dispose of one load not to exceed 2,000 pounds of solid or vegetative waste per calendar month, per customer for a $15.00 fee at one of the participating transfer stations or landfills.

Who can use the program?

• Current City of Mesa trash and recycling customers with a rate code of R1.2, R1.2A, R1.2B, R1.24, R1.25, R1.26, R1.27, R1.29, R2.9A or R2.9B. Rate code information may be found on your City of Mesa Utility bill under Solid Waste.
  
  
• Customers must present a City of Mesa original or electronic copy of their utility bill for the current or previous month and a picture identification card/driver's license showing that the individual resides at the service address that is listed on the utility bill. Online billing customers will be required to have their current or previous month's utility bill ready to present at the transfer station or landfill scale house window. For faster service, a printed copy is recommended. Please Note: Salt River Landfill has informed the City of Mesa that customers who are not prepared with the proper documentation may be asked to pull aside and re-enter the line when prepared.

Program Guidelines

• Mesa trash and recycling customers may dump up to 2,000 pounds of non-hazardous solid or vegetative waste once per calendar month.
  
  
• Upon using this service, a $15 fee will be added to your next City of Mesa utility bill.
  
  • If paying the transfer station or landfill directly, it is not necessary to present a City of Mesa utility bill.
• Loads must be covered and securely tied down in a vehicle that is no larger than one-ton manufacturer vehicle rated.
  
  
• Customers using a vehicle larger than one-ton manufacturer vehicle rated will be required to pay the standard transfer station or landfill rate.
  
  
• If your load exceeds 2,000 pounds, you will be charged for the entire load payable directly to the transfer station or landfill. A Landfill Use Program credit will not be given for the first 2,000 pounds.
  
  
• Customers will be responsible for paying surcharges associated with uncovered loads, including infrequent fees such as crushing or burial. Please contact the participating transfer station or landfill with additional questions.
  
  • Burial fees are required to accommodate rapidly decomposing waste, such as animals or a refrigerator full of spoiled food. These are relatively infrequent, but a hole must be dug at the landfill to accommodate the rapidly decomposing waste.
• Appliances with refrigerant
  • The Salt River Landfill will assess a refrigerant extraction charge per appliance in addition to the per transaction fee. Please contact the Salt River Landfill for fees and requirements. Salt River Landfill Large Appliance Program- (480) 941-3427

  • Republic Services does not accept any appliances containing refrigerant at any of their disposal sites.

Republic Services requires customers to wear a hard hat while visiting their facilities. If you do not already have a hard hat, they will be available for purchase at Republic Services disposal sites. At this time, a hard hat is not required at the Salt River Landfill. For your safety, we recommend always wearing personal protective equipment including a hard hat, puncture-resistant gloves, closed-toed shoes, sunscreen and a safety vest during your visit to any disposal site.

What if I can't transport the material myself?
You may find that our Bulk Item Pick up, Appliance Recycling, and Rolloff programs would work better for you.

What if I don't qualify for this program or need to make more than one trip?

If you do not meet the qualifications for the Landfill Use Program, or you need to make additional trips during the same month, you may still use any of these facilities by paying their standard gate fee. This program does not affect City of Mesa residents' ability to use landfills or transfer stations not listed on this page. Please refer to the participating transfer station or landfill websites for current gate fees or additional disposal requirements.
