Project Description

This project will construct approximately one mile of new pipeline to replace a bottleneck in an older section of existing pipeline. The work is located on Val Vista Drive, between Brown Road and McKellips Road. This new, larger segment will create a more flexible way to move water to different parts of our community's water system, helping address critical operational needs such as water treatment plant maintenance, routine operations, or unexpected pipeline failures.

The new pipe will be 36 inches in diameter, replacing an aging 16-inch pipe. This increase in size is necessary not only to replace the aging pipeline, but also to upsize capacity to transmit the volume of water needed to meet current and future system demands. To minimize impacts to residents, Mesa will use underground tunneling when crossing major roadways. This approach keeps more travel lanes open and reduces the need for road closures. Mesa is also using two separate pipe crews working simultaneously to help expedite the construction timeline. Together, these efforts are designed to minimize traffic impacts while this critical infrastructure is built. Due to the project's proximity to residential areas, nighttime work will be limited.

A Public Meeting will be held at Mountain View High School - 2700 E Brown Rd, Mesa, AZ 85213 on Tuesday, October 26, 2026 at 6 p.m.
