Mesa plans to reconstruct Val Vista Drive from the US 60 Freeway to Pueblo Avenue and the intersection of Val Vista Drive and Southern Avenue. These improvements will provide three through lanes on Val Vista Drive from US60 to Enid Avenue. Improvements include pavement reconstruction, raised center medians, bike lanes, adding drainage structures and facilities, landscaping, and traffic signal modifications. Other improvements include overhead to underground electric (complete), sewer facilities, gas facilities, replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalk, and ADA-compliant ramps and driveways in various locations.

Project Phasing

Granite (contractor) will begin working on storm drain, electrical, and gas main improvements the months of October and December 2025. These before phase I roadway improvements begin. There will be various traffic control devices in place to complete these improvements, including intermittent left turn restrictions at the intersections of Val Vista Drive and Southern Avenue, and Val Vista Drive and Hampton Avenue. 

12/9/25 - 12/15/25: left turns prohibited for northbound, southbound, and eastbound traffic at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Val Vista Drive for gas utility improvements.

Phase 1 improvements, 12/15/25 - February 2026: Val Vista Drive (westside) from the US60 freeway to Southern Avenue, and Southern Avenue from Val Vista Drive to approximately 600 feet (+/-) to the west.

  • Roadway widening, west side of Val Vista Drive, south of Hampton Avenue only
  • Gas improvements
  • Electrical improvements for traffic signals and streetlights
  • Sidewalk, curb, gutter, and driveway improvements in some locations
  • Asphalt removal and replacement
During this phase, Hampton Avenue will be closed for improvements from 12/15/25-1/9/26
