30x30

As part of our ongoing commitment to recruit the most qualified and capable individuals, Mesa Police Department has signed on to the 30x30 Pledge—a national effort to expand the reach and effectiveness of police recruitment strategies. This initiative aligns with our goal of identifying exceptional candidates who may not have previously considered a career in public safety, ensuring we do not miss out on top talent from all segments of our community.
Mesa is committed to building a workforce that reflects a wide range of experiences, skills, and perspectives. We believe our community is best served by officers who not only meet the highest standards but also understand and connect with the residents they serve. Expanding our recruitment efforts allows us to:
- Reach untapped candidate pools with strong potential for public service
- Foster greater trust and communication through a more community-aligned workforce
- Promote problem-solving and innovation through diversity of thought and lived experience
What is the 30x30 Initiative?
The 30x30 Initiative is a coalition of police leaders, researchers, and professional organizations committed to advancing the representation and experiences of women in policing. It is affiliated with the Policing Project at NYU School of Law and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE).
While 30x30 specifically highlights the value of increasing the number of women in law enforcement, its broader principles promote recruitment practices that benefit all demographic groups, not just gender.
Why It Matters
Women are historically underrepresented in policing; however, research shows that women contribute to law enforcement by:
- Use force less often
- Are involved in fewer complaints and lawsuits
- Are perceived as more trustworthy and empathetic
- Improve outcomes for crime victims, particularly in sensitive cases
Mesa’s Approach
By joining the 30x30 Initiative, Mesa PD is taking proactive, cost-effective steps to enhance the experience for all officers, foster supportive environments, and expand outreach to a broader range of qualified candidates. This includes reviewing internal policies, expanding recruitment strategies, and implementing programs that support career growth and retention across the department.
Ultimately, Mesa benefits when its police force is composed of individuals who reflect and understand the people they serve. Through expanded outreach and thoughtful recruitment, we are contributing to the most qualified and dynamic workforce prepared to meet the evolving needs of our community.
