Abandoned Vehicles

If you suspect an abandoned vehicle may be stolen (e.g.; broken window/s, no license plate, etc.), please call the non-emergency line at 480-644-2211 and choose option 2.
Abandoned vehicles can be reported through Mesa CityLink.

Check Fraud
|
Intentionally or deliberately acting to deprive another person/business of money using deceptive or unfair means.
Examples: Forgery, theft, washing checks, illegally printing checks.
- Do you have suspect information?

Criminal Damage
|
The act of damaging or defacing public or private property.
Examples: Deliberately scratching a car's paint, knocking over a mailbox, throwing a rock through a window.
- The crime is NOT in progress. If the crime IS IN progress, please call 480-644-2211, option 2, or 9-1-1.
- Damage does not include graffiti or damage from another vehicle.

Found or Abandoned Property
|
Property which is found and the owner cannot be located or property appears to be abandoned.
Example: You find a backpack in the street and no one is around; it appears to be abandoned.
- Once the online report is approved, a police investigator will call and make arrangements to pick the property up.
- Vehicles which appear to be abandoned cannot be reported here.
- Any dangerous items which includes, but is not limited to, firearms, explosive material or ammunition, syringes, etc., CANNOT be reported online. Please call 480-644-2211, option 2.

|
Graffiti can be reported through Mesa CityLink.

Bias Crime / Incident
|
A crime in which the defendant intentionally selects a victim, or in the case of a property crime, the property that is the object of the crime, in whole or in part because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, disability or sexual orientation of any person.
Bias Crime Example: Threatening to physically harm a person, their family, or their property based on their perceived protected class.
An incident is actions by an individual or group that, while motivated by improper bias, do not meet the elements of a criminal offense.
Bias Incident Example: A group of teenagers call a Black teenager the "N" word.

Hit and Run
|
The act of colliding with a person, their personal property or a fixture, and failing to stop and identify oneself afterwards.
Example: You are on a public street when another vehicle collides with yours, then speeds off without providing information.
Example: You come out from shopping and find someone has backed into your vehicle and they did not leave a note with contact information
- No one was injured.
- You do not know the suspect involved in the crime.
- Damage is less than $2,000.
- If the damage value is MORE than $2,000, please call the non-emergency number at 480-644-2211, option 2, to file a report.
- Please be advised, reports on hit and run accidents valued under $2,000, where you do not know the suspect, are for insurance purposes only.

Identity Theft
|
The illegal use of someone's personal information (such as Social Security number), especially in order to obtain money or access that person's financial resources.
Example: A person uses your Social Security number with a fake name and made up date of birth to gain employment, set up a bank account, get a loan, or open any type of account.
Example: Someone using your name files a change of address with the post office.
- AFTER completing an Identity Theft report and after the report has been approved by a Mesa Police Officer, the victim MUST ALSO COMPLETE a Mesa Police Fraud Packet(PDF, 219KB) .
If you are the victim of Identity Theft or Fraud, please find and keep all papers, receipts, canceled checks, mail from companies, etc., related to the crime. We may contact you to get these items, if needed, and you should keep copies for your records.

Lost Property
|
Property that has been left in an unknown location involuntarily, through no one's fault, and cannot be found.
Example: You drop your wallet/purse while shopping. You have looked everywhere, but cannot find it. You have checked with your bank and credit card companies and none of your cards have been used fraudulently.
- Property is lost. (Visit Found Property to see if your property has been listed.)
- License plates and Federally issued government IDs or documents (passports, green cards, visas, etc.) CANNOT be reported online. Please call 480-644-2211, option 2.
- State issued driver's licenses and ID are allowed to be reported online.
- Any dangerous items which includes, but is not limited to, firearms, explosive material or ammunition, syringes, etc., CANNOT be reported online. Please call 480-644-2211, option 2.

Missing Livestock / Animal
|
Animals that have gotten out of their enclosures and cannot be found.
Example: Your sheep have gotten out through a broken gate and you can't find them.
- Owner Information.
- Where are they missing from.
- Type of animal.
- Is there risk to the public?

Non-Injury Crash
|
Collision between two vehicles or a vehicle and an object where no one is injured.
Example: A minor fender bender. A vehicle loses control and runs into a light pole or tree and they are not injured.
- Confirm there are no injuries.
- Is the damage less than $2,000?
- Are the vehicles blocking traffic?
- Is it legally parked?

Shoplifting
|
The stealing of merchandise that was not paid for.
Example: Unidentifiable person(s) enter a store, take beer and candy then exit the store without paying for the items. Unidentifiable person(s) change the purchase price of an item to a lesser amount, pay that amount and exit the store without paying the correct price for the item.
- The crime is NOT in progress. If the crime IS IN progress, please call 480-644-2211, option 2, or 9-1-1.
- You do not know the suspect involved in the crime.
- The total value of the loss is less than $1,000.
- If the total value of items stolen is MORE than $1,000, please call the non-emergency number at 480-644-2211, option 2, to file a report.

Theft
|
The taking of personal property without permission or consent.
Example: Unidentifiable person(s) take a bike from your front yard or the front of a business.
Example: Unidentifiable person(s) take flowers or holiday decorations from your yard.
- The crime is NOT in progress. If the crime IS IN progress, please call 480-644-2211, option 2, or 9-1-1.
- You do not know the suspect involved in the crime.
- The total value of the items stolen is less than $1,000.
- If the total value of items stolen is MORE than $1,000, please call the non-emergency number at 480-644-2211, option 2, to file a report.
- The theft is NOT any of the following: credit card, vehicle, firearm, material threatening to public safety (i.e., explosives or highly toxic substances).
- License Plate thefts MUST be reported by calling 480-644-2211, option 2. This ensures that they are entered into ACIC as stolen in a timely manner.
- Government IDs or documents (passports, green cards, visas, etc.) CANNOT be reported online. Please call 480-644-2211, option 2.
- Theft of dangerous items which includes, but is not limited to, firearms, explosive material or ammunition, etc., CANNOT be reported online. Please call 480-644-2211, option 2.

Trespassing (Not in progress)
|
Someone has come onto your property after they have been told to stay away. This could be residential or business.
Example: You own a business and see on your security camera a person known to you, that has been told not to return to your store, making purchases in your store.
- Any suspect information.

Welfare Fraud
|
The abuse of government safety-net programs.
Example: Most common is when someone gives inaccurate or false information to qualify for benefits that they otherwise wouldn't be eligible for.

Supplemental Property / Additional Information
|
If you have additional information or property to add to a report previously filed online or taken initially by an officer. This includes additional stolen or lost property.
Example: You filed a stolen property report either online or with an officer and you have found additional property that was stolen. Use this form to add that property to your initial report.
You will need your original report number.
