Electric Smart Peaks Program

decorative

Mesa Electric Smart Peaks is a voluntary program designed to assist customers in reducing electricity use during periods of high demand while helping the reliability of the grid. To participate, you must be a commercial or residential electric customer in Mesa's electric service area. SRP customers, please visit the SRP website.

How does the program work?

By participating, you agree to brief conservation events which adjust smart thermostats during peak electric demand periods between May 1 and September 30. Any event will last no more than four hours. Peak demand periods for adjustments typically occur on especially hot days, but conservation events may also occur under other circumstances to reduce strain on the grid. Conservation events will not occur on holidays.

What are the benefits?

Participating also allows the Mesa electric utility to use technologies that manage energy demand during “peak hours,” when usage increases significantly. The program is designed to govern peak demand and reduce strain on the grid during the hottest parts of the day and may improve reliability. This can lower energy costs, with the savings passed on to our customers.

Who is eligible?

Mesa electric service area customers who have a qualifying thermostat controlling their central air conditioning are eligible. The thermostat must be internet-connected. Your Mesa utility account must be in good standing (not delinquent).

What’s the reward?

Participants will receive a $50 digital gift card after being accepted in the program and a $50 digital gift card for each subsequent year of continuous enrollment.  In addition, participation can improve the stability of the grid and lower the cost of purchased power. Please allow 5 business days to process enrollment requests.

How will I know if a temperature adjustment is in progress?
Depending on the thermostat, notifications may appear on the thermostat or in your web or mobile application.

How will my thermostat be adjusted?
At the start of an event, your thermostat will be automatically adjusted above the current temperature. Events will typically last no more than four hours between 12 pm and 9 pm. The program will not make adjustments on holidays. Once the adjustment event is over, your thermostat will return to its normal set point and/or schedule. In some cases, your thermostat might be adjusted down prior to the event to pre-cool your home.

Yes, you can opt out from your thermostat, mobile device, or web app at any time during the event.

What if I change my mind?
To unenroll, email electricprograms@mesaaz.gov and request to leave Mesa Electric Smart Peaks. This will end participation for all your enrolled thermostats.

Nest customers may also unenroll by contacting Google.
