Mayor Mark Freeman

Mark Freeman, elected in 2024, is the 41st mayor of Mesa, Arizona. A lifelong Mesa resident, he exemplifies the values of family, hard work, and community. Mark previously represented District 1 on the Mesa City Council from 2017 to 2024 and served as Vice Mayor from 2019 to 2021.

As Mayor, Mark focuses on public safety, economic development, workforce and education, revitalizing neighborhoods, water security, and responsible budgeting. He is committed to preserving Mesa’s rich heritage while planning for a sustainable and prosperous future. He pledges to ensure every dollar is spent wisely, transparently, and in ways that truly benefit Mesa residents.

Freeman’s connection to Mesa runs deep. His ancestors were among Mesa’s first families, and he remains actively involved in farming today.

Mark retired as a Captain Paramedic after dedicating 31 years to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. His passion for community service extends to leadership roles in local organizations and regional and national committees.

As Mayor, Mark serves as Chair of the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board of Directors, helping guide one of the region’s major economic engines and supporting continued growth at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

Mark also serves as Chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Energy Standing Committee, where he works with mayors from across the country on issues related to energy reliability, affordability, infrastructure, and economic growth.

His leadership extends to committees addressing public safety, water resources, transportation, economic development, and municipal issues at the state and local levels.

Mark’s key priorities include strengthening public safety, growing Mesa’s economy, preparing residents for career opportunities through workforce and education partnerships, revitalizing neighborhoods, investing responsibly in infrastructure, protecting Mesa’s water future, and maintaining a balanced and responsible budget.

Mesa’s City Council currently organizes its strategic direction around six Strategic Priorities: Community Safety; Diverse, Resilient and Sustainable Economy; Strong Neighborhoods and Placemaking; Sustainable Environment; Transportation and Infrastructure; and Innovative, Inclusive and Efficient Government. These priorities guide the City’s long-term planning, decision-making, and budget process.
