How to File a Police Report

This service is provided as a convenience and is available in 30+ languages to report a crime that is not in progress. To file a report online, you must be over 17 years old. If you want to report a crime in progress, immediately call 9-1-1.

Considerations for Online Reporting

Important: Please call our non-emergency number at 480-644-2211 before visiting any police station in person. Our staff will direct you to the correct station for your report, so you avoid delays or unnecessary trips.

Need to Speak with an Officer?

If your incident does not qualify for online reporting or you prefer to speak with an officer, call the Mesa Police Department’s non-emergency number at 480-644-2211. Our dispatchers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will assist you with the next steps.

  • Reports filed online or at a kiosk may take up to seven business days to process.

Online Reporting

Filing online keeps officers available for emergency and in-progress calls. Most property crimes, thefts, and lost items can be reported online. You may only report incidents that have occurred in the City of Mesa. If the incident you are reporting occurred outside the City of Mesa, please contact the appropriate agency to make your report.

You CANNOT use this online reporting system if any of the following apply:

  • The crime is happening right now
  • A firearm was involved
  • The suspect is still on the scene
  • There is physical evidence to collect, such as DNA, fingerprints, or items left behind [video surveillance does not count as physical evidence]
  • The total value of lost or damaged property is more than $5,000 (**Shoplifting cases are exempt from the $5,000 loss threshold**).
  • A hit and run collision, where the suspect driver can be identified, and the victim desires prosecution [license plates are not suspect information]
  • Intimidation/Threats (Does not involve mass gatherings, i.e., School, Church, Sporting Events, or other large gatherings)

  • The incident involves sexually explicit images or videos, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse material, revenge pornography, indecent exposure or other sexual offenses.

For police services involving any of the aforementioned items, please call 9-1-1 if it is an emergency, or 480-644-2211 for non-emergencies.  

Important Notice/WARNING: Do not upload sexually explicit images or videos through the Online Reporting system.

If your incident involves sexually explicit images, videos, or other media, please contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211 to make a report. These incidents require officer review and cannot be reported through the Online Reporting system.

Reports submitted with prohibited media may be rejected and referred to an officer for contact. Knowingly uploading illegal or prohibited content that is unrelated to the reported incident may result in a criminal charge. 

You CAN use this online service to report the following crimes. Find the incident type and click on the link to be taken to the appropriate reporting system.

  • Abandoned Vehicles: Abandoned vehicles can only be reported if they are on a public street. If the vehicle is on private property, contact the property owner or management. If the vehicle has not moved for more than 72 hours, use the link below to submit a report.

  • Animal Noise Disturbance: Excessive or continuous noise caused by an animal, such as barking, howling, or other sounds, that unreasonably disrupts the peace of others nearby, especially during early morning or late-night hours.

  • Counterfeiting: Creating or using fake money, IDs, or products that are made to look real in order to trick people.

  • Credit Card/Automated Teller Machine Fraud: Using someone else’s credit card, debit card, or bank account information without permission to make purchases or withdraw money.

  • Credit/Debit Card Fraud: When someone uses your credit or debit card, or your card information, without your permission to make purchases.

  • Criminal Damage: Damaging or destroying someone else’s property on purpose, such as breaking, vandalizing, or defacing it. 

    Use this if the damage appears gang-related or if you have suspect information.

  • Deceased Animal: Reporting a dead animal found in a public area, such as on a street or sidewalk, so it can be removed safely.

  • False Pretenses/Swindle/Confidence Game: Tricking someone into giving money or property by lying, using a story, or pretending to be someone they are not.

  • Forgery: Signing someone else’s name, changing a document, or creating a fake document to try to gain money, property, or some benefit.

  • Found or Abandoned Property: Property, which is found, and the owner cannot be located, or property appears to be abandoned.

  • Graffiti: Writing, drawing, or painting on property without permission, such as on walls, fences, or buildings. If the graffiti appears gang-related or you have suspect information, select “Criminal Damage.”

  • Harassment: Repeated unwanted contact or behavior that annoys or makes someone feel unsafe.

  • Hit & Run: When a driver is involved in a crash and leaves the scene without stopping to provide information or help. $2,000 or less in damage, no injuries, no identifiable suspect information, a license plate is not suspect information.

  • Identity Theft: When someone uses your personal information, like your name or Social Security number, without your permission to commit fraud or open accounts.

  • Illegal Dumping: Throwing away trash, furniture, or other waste in places where it is not allowed, such as on the street, in alleys, or on vacant land.

  • Impersonation: Pretending to be someone else in order to gain trust, get information, or benefit in some way.

  • Lost Property: Property that you have misplaced or cannot find, and you do not know where or how it was lost.

  • Non-Injury Crash: Not a hit and run collision, the damage is less than $2,000, driver’s independently exchanged information and need a police report for insurances. **HIT & RUN Collisions will be rejected on this platform** select HIT & RUN from the listed options.

  • Police Report Request: Requesting a copy of your police report.

  • Shoplifting: Taking items that are for sale from a store without paying for them.

  • Submit a Tip: You can submit a tip online regarding gang activity, drug activity, information about a crime you witnessed, cold cases, or other criminal activity. You may remain anonymous through the online tip system.

  • Supplemental Reports: Additional information or updates added to an existing police report.

  • Theft: Taking someone else’s property without permission and without intending to return it. **Value must be $5,000 or less**

  • Trespassing: Knowingly entering or remaining on someone else’s property without permission, or after being told to leave.

  • Welfare Fraud: Providing false information or hiding information to receive government benefits you are not eligible for.

  • Wire Fraud: Using phone calls, texts, emails, or the internet to trick someone into sending money or giving financial information.
